Writings of John R Renno

John grew up Amish. He read his Bible and came to faith in Christ. He was compelled to tell others, both in person and through his writing. His writings are the result of his many years of studying the Bible and people.

The verse that gave John assurance when he came to faith in Christ was Ephesians 2:8-9 “Denn aus Gnade seid ihr selig geworden durch den Glauben, und das nicht aus euch: Gottes Gabe ist es, nicht aus den Werken, auf daß sich nicht jemand rühme.” – Luther’s Bible

The English is, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” – New King James

The picture of John is from the winter of 1982, John is convincing me of the doctrine of election. I said, “Election is not fair.” His response, “Oh, you don’t want fair.” Because of our sin, we are not deserving of His grace. In the gospel of John Jesus says, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.” It’s a matter of ability. We are dead in our trespasses and sin. What can a dead man do for himself? “And you he made alive, who were dead in your trespasses and sin …” (Ephesians 2:1) – David Lepley
